What does “OBO” mean?
Or Best Offer.
OBO, explained
OBO stands for Or Best Offer. When a seller adds OBO after an asking price, they are saying the price is negotiable and they will consider reasonable offers. It is common in private sales and less formal dealer posts, and it tells buyers that a counter-offer will not be seen as rude.
For buyers, OBO is an opening, not a promise of a discount. Offers that are far below the asking price, without any reason, usually end the conversation. A better approach is to base an offer on recent comparable sales and on specific points such as condition, missing items or the age of the papers. For sellers, OBO can speed up a sale, but it helps to know in advance what the lowest acceptable number is, so you can answer quickly when an offer arrives.
An example post: “FS: Breitling Navitimer B01 43, 2022, full set, very good condition, asking price stated, OBO, can meet in person in Zurich.”
