What does “NIB” mean?

New In Box.

NIB, explained

NIB stands for New In Box. It describes a watch that is new and comes with its original box, usually also with its papers. In everyday use it means the watch has not been worn, but because it is a loose abbreviation, some sellers use it for watches that have been tried on or handled briefly.

That looseness is why careful dealers ask follow-up questions when they see NIB. Are the factory stickers and protective film still on? What date is on the warranty card? Has the bracelet been sized, and are all links present? A watch that is genuinely new with a recent card is usually priced differently from one that is new but has been sitting in a drawer for several years, and both are different again from a watch that was worn even lightly. Being specific protects both sides from disappointment.

An example listing line: “NIB Tudor Pelagos 39, 2024 card, stickers on, all links, never sized.” BNIB and LNIB are related terms that make the condition clearer.
