What does “L2L” mean?
Lug-to-lug.
L2L, explained
L2L stands for lug-to-lug: the distance from the tip of the top lugs to the tip of the bottom lugs, measured in millimetres. It is one of the most useful numbers for judging how a watch will actually wear, because it decides whether the watch overhangs the edges of the wrist.
Case diameter alone can be misleading. Two watches that are both 40 mm across can wear very differently if one has long, straight lugs and the other has short, curved ones. That is why buyers with smaller wrists often ask for the L2L measurement before committing, and why dealers include it when describing less common references or vintage pieces where the specification is harder to find. When measuring, use calipers across the lug tips rather than a ruler, and note that some bracelets with fixed end links can add a little to the effective length.
In a message, a buyer might ask: “What is the L2L on this one? My wrist is about 16.5 cm and I don't want overhang.” A dealer might reply with the measurement and a wrist shot.
