What does “Bluesy” mean?

Submariner Date, two-tone blue.

Bluesy, explained

'Bluesy' is the nickname for the two-tone Rolex Submariner Date in steel and yellow gold (Rolesor) with a blue dial and blue bezel. The modern references are the 116613LB, made from 2009 to 2020 with a blue ceramic bezel and caliber 3135, and its 41 mm successor, the 126613LB, launched in 2020 with caliber 3235. Earlier two-tone Submariners such as the 16613 were also made with blue dials and aluminium bezel inserts.

The Bluesy appeals to buyers who want a Submariner with a dressier, more colourful look than the steel black-dial model. The blue dial has a sunburst finish that shifts in shade with the light. Two-tone watches show wear on the gold parts, so check the centre links of the bracelet and the clasp for scratches and stretch. Dealers should always state the reference, because the generations differ in case shape, movement and bracelet details.

Example: 'Bluesy 126613LB, 2022, full set, light hairlines on the clasp.'
