What does “Batman” mean?
GMT-Master II, blue/black bezel.
Batman, explained
'Batman' is the nickname for the Rolex GMT-Master II with a blue and black ceramic bezel, a colour pairing that reminded collectors of the comic-book character. It arrived in 2013 as the steel 116710BLNR, the first Rolex with a two-colour ceramic bezel, on an Oyster bracelet with a black dial and caliber 3186. In 2019 it was replaced by the 126710BLNR, with the newer caliber 3285 and a Jubilee bracelet, and from 2021 the 126710BLNR was also offered on an Oyster bracelet.
The bracelet matters to buyers. Many dealers reserve 'Batman' for Oyster-bracelet watches and call the Jubilee version 'Batgirl', but the names are used loosely, so it is best to state the reference and bracelet in full. The 116710BLNR is the only Batman with the older movement and an Oyster-only bracelet, and some buyers look for it specifically for that reason, while others prefer the longer power reserve of the newer caliber. As with all modern Rolex sports models, the card date, the completeness of the set and whether the watch is unworn have a big influence on price.
Example: 'Batman 116710BLNR, 2018, full set, light wear, never polished.'
