About Tudor

Tudor began in 1926, when the name The Tudor was registered on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex. Wilsdorf took the brand over fully in 1936 and created Montres Tudor SA in 1946. His idea was to offer the robustness of the Rolex Oyster case at a lower price by fitting it with movements bought from outside suppliers.

For decades Tudor watches used Rolex-made cases, crowns and bracelets, and Tudor divers were issued to navies including the French Marine Nationale. Since its revival in the 2010s, with the Heritage Black Bay of 2012 and the first in-house caliber in 2015, the brand has built its own identity. The catalog covers the Black Bay family, the Pelagos, the Ranger, the Royal and 1926 lines, ladies' lines such as Clair de Rose and Glamour, and vintage models such as the Submariner, Monte Carlo chronographs, Advisor and Oyster Prince.

On vintage Tudor, dealers check that Rolex-signed parts, dials and hands are original, since replacements are common. On modern models they look for the warranty card and box, the caliber generation (outsourced or in-house) and the condition of the bracelet.
