Watch & Box, explained

'Watch and box' means the watch comes with its original box but without the papers, meaning the warranty card or certificate. Dealers also call it 'box only', which can be confusing, since it can sound as if only a box is for sale. It usually means the brand's presentation box, sometimes with the outer box, booklets or tags as well.

Without papers, a watch-and-box piece is generally worth less than the same watch with a full set, though usually a little more than the watch alone, since the box helps with presentation and resale. Keep in mind that a box proves nothing about the watch inside: original boxes are easy to buy separately, so check that the box is the correct type and era for the reference. Good listings say exactly which items are included rather than just 'with box'.

Example: 'Watch and box, no papers. Box is the correct style for the model and year.'
