Hang Tag, explained
A hang tag is the small tag attached to a new watch by the brand, usually around the bracelet or clasp. On many brands it records the reference and serial number, and some carry a certification seal. Rolex's green hang tag, introduced with its Superlative Chronometer certification in 2015, is the best-known example and is often simply called the 'green tag'.
Hang tags are small but count for a lot with buyers of modern pieces, because they help show that a watch is complete and, if still attached, unworn. Where the tag carries numbers, they can be checked against the watch and papers. Missing tags are a common reason a set can't be described as complete. Because tags can be bought separately or copied, they support a set rather than prove it. Keep them flat and stored with the papers so they don't get creased or lost.
Example: 'Unworn, stickers on, green tag still attached, full set.'
