What does “Outer Box” mean?
The exterior box the inner watch box sits in. Part of a true full set.
Outer Box, explained
The outer box is the exterior box that the main presentation box (the inner box) sits in when a watch leaves the brand. It is usually plainer, often card with the brand's logo, sometimes with a label or sleeve, and it protects the inner box during shipping and storage.
Outer boxes are often thrown away by first owners, so having one is a sign of a carefully kept set, and many buyers consider it part of a true full set for modern watches. Its condition, and whether any label on it fits the reference, can matter to collectors. Because outer boxes are easy to reproduce or buy separately, they add to completeness rather than proving authenticity. List them clearly: 'inner and outer box' tells a buyer much more than just 'box'.
Example: 'Full set including outer box, light shelf wear on the outer.'
