About the Monaco family
The Monaco was introduced in 1969 as one of the first automatic chronographs, using the Caliber 11 developed by Heuer with partners. Its square case was among the first water-resistant square watches, and its crown sits on the left. Steve McQueen wore one in the film Le Mans in 1971.
Modern Monacos include chronographs with Caliber 11, 12 and 17, the in-house Heuer 02, special editions in titanium and DLC finishes and the blue-dial models closest to the original. Dealers identify the generation and caliber from the reference, and treat vintage Heuer Monacos as a separate collector market.
