About the Milgauss family
The Milgauss was made for scientists and engineers who worked near strong magnetic fields. Introduced in the 1950s with refs. 6541 and 6543, it was designed to resist 1,000 gauss, which gave it its name. The ref. 1019 followed in the 1960s and stayed in production until the late 1980s.
Rolex revived the model in 2007 with ref. 116400, which has a soft-iron shield around the movement and an orange lightning-bolt seconds hand. The 116400GV adds a green-tinted sapphire crystal. The collection was discontinued in 2023, so current pieces trade on the secondary market only. Dealers distinguish the black and the white dial and, on the GV, the black and the electric blue dial.
