About the 44GS family
The 44GS, introduced in 1967 with the hand-wound caliber 4420, is the watch that set out what became known as the Grand Seiko Style. Its design rules include flat, mirror-polished surfaces, sharp facets, a flat bezel and multi-faceted hands and markers, made possible by the Zaratsu polishing technique.
Many modern Heritage models are based on it, which makes original 44GS examples popular with collectors. Check that the case edges are still sharp, as heavy polishing destroys the look, and that the dial and hands are original.
