About F.P. Journe

F.P. Journe is the independent manufacture of François-Paul Journe, a watchmaker born in Marseille in 1957 who trained in Paris and made his first tourbillon by hand as a young man. He founded his brand in Geneva in 1999, launching it with the Tourbillon Souverain, and signs his watches Invenit et Fecit, meaning invented and made.

The brand makes its own movements, cases and dials in Geneva, and since the mid-2000s most movements have plates and bridges in 18k rose gold, which collectors distinguish from the earlier brass movements. The catalog covers the Souveraine line of complications and chronometers, the Octa line built around a long-running automatic caliber, the Élégante electro-mechanical watches, the Linesport sports models and the Vagabondage series.

Production is small, and many references are made in limited numbers. Dealers identify a Journe by the model, case metal, dial and movement material, ask for the certificate and box and check service with the brand. Early brass-movement pieces and limited dial variants are watched closely by collectors.
