About Breguet

Breguet was founded in Paris in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, a Swiss-born watchmaker whose work shaped modern watchmaking. He is credited with the tourbillon, patented in 1801, as well as the hands and numerals that still carry his name, the overcoil balance spring and early self-winding pocket watches. Today the brand belongs to the Swatch Group and makes its watches in L'Abbaye in the Vallée de Joux.

The catalog covers the dress-focused Classique and Classique Complications, the openworked Tradition, the curved Héritage, the nautical Marine, the Reine de Naples ladies' line and the Type XX, XXI and XXII pilot's chronographs.

Typical Breguet details to check are the hand-engraved guilloché or enamel dial, the fluted case band, the welded lugs and the individually numbered case, with a discreet secret signature on many dials. The case number should match the papers, and Breguet can issue certificates from its archives for older pieces. Steel and titanium Type XX and Marine models attract the widest pool of buyers, while gold Classique dress watches depend more on the specific reference, size and dial.
