About the Fifty Fathoms family
The Fifty Fathoms appeared in 1953 and is one of the first modern dive watches. It was developed with French naval combat divers, who needed a reliable, legible watch with a locking rotating bezel; the name refers to the depth of about 91 metres that was then thought to be the limit for divers.
Modern Fifty Fathoms have a domed sapphire bezel insert, a large luminous dial and a sapphire caseback. The 45 mm reference 5015, introduced in 2007, runs on the caliber 1315 with a five-day power reserve, and in 2023 the brand added the 42 mm reference 5010 for its 70th anniversary. Flyback chronographs use the F185. Buyers check that the case material, dial and bezel match the reference, and the bracelet, if supplied, is worth noting.
