About Blancpain

Blancpain traces its history to 1735, when Jehan-Jacques Blancpain was recorded as a watchmaker in Villeret in the Swiss Jura, and the brand presents itself as the oldest watch name still in use. After a quiet period during the quartz era it was revived in the 1980s by Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet around a simple promise of traditional mechanical watches only. It has belonged to the Swatch Group since 1992 and works from Le Brassus and Le Sentier in the Vallée de Joux.

The catalog covers the two dive families, the Fifty Fathoms (first made in 1953) and the Bathyscaphe, along with the classic Villeret dress collection, the Air Command pilot's chronograph and the Ladybird ladies' line.

For dealers the Fifty Fathoms is the main draw, and buyers will check that the bezel insert, dial and case material match the reference. Expect questions about the full set and service history. Villeret complications such as complete calendars and moon phases sell to a smaller, well-informed group of buyers, so accurate description of the functions and the caliber matters.
