About Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, in the Vallée de Joux, by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet. The company is still owned by the founding families, and it built its early reputation on complicated pocket watches, including minute repeaters, perpetual calendars and very thin movements.

Its modern identity rests on the Royal Oak of 1972, the steel sports watch with an octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet designed by Gérald Genta. The catalog covers the Royal Oak, the larger Royal Oak Offshore of 1993, the experimental Royal Oak Concept and the round Code 11.59 of 2019, along with earlier lines such as Jules Audemars, Millenary, Edward Piguet, Promesse and Tradition, and vintage references like the 1978 perpetual calendar.

AP reference numbers encode a lot: the first digits identify the model, the letters after them the case material (ST steel, OR pink gold, BA yellow gold, BC white gold, PT platinum, CE ceramic, TI titanium) and the rest the dial and bracelet. Dealers check that the full reference matches the watch, ask for the warranty card and box, and value an AP service record. Steel Royal Oak references draw the most demand.
