About A. Lange & Söhne

A. Lange & Söhne was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Saxony, where he helped build the town's watchmaking industry. After the Second World War the company was expropriated and its name disappeared. Walter Lange, the founder's great-grandson, revived it in 1990 with Günter Blümlein, and the first new collection appeared in 1994.

Lange movements follow Saxon tradition: plates in untreated German silver, a three-quarter plate on many calibers, hand-engraved balance cocks and gold chatons with screws. Each movement is assembled twice, first to test and adjust it, then again after disassembly and final finishing. The catalog covers the Lange 1 with its off-centre dial and outsize date, the Saxonia, the 1815, the Richard Lange, the Datograph and other chronographs, the Zeitwerk with its digital display, the Cabaret, the Langematik and the Odysseus sports watch.

Dealers look for the certificate and box, the case metal (yellow, pink and white gold, platinum and the brand's own honey gold), and a service record from Lange, since the finishing is part of the watch's value. Limited editions are identified by their number and engraving.
