What does “Unpolished” mean?
Never polished. Original factory finishing intact. Valued by collectors.
Unpolished, explained
Unpolished means the case and bracelet have never been polished, so the original factory finishing is intact. That includes the balance between brushed and polished surfaces, the crisp edges and bevels, and the exact shape the brand gave the case.
Collectors value unpolished watches, especially vintage ones, because polishing cannot be undone. Even a careful polish removes some metal and can blur details, so an unpolished case is a stronger example of the watch as it was made. Claims of unpolished should be supported by evidence: sharp edges, consistent finishing and wear patterns that make sense for the watch's age. Some light wear is normal and actually supports the claim. Note that brand services often include a polish by default unless the owner asks otherwise, so service history should be checked.
A typical post: “Unpolished Rolex Submariner 16610, honest wear, full set from 2007, never polished during its last service.” A buyer might ask for side profile photos of the case to confirm.
