What does “Retail Ready” mean?
Clean, serviced and ready to go straight into a showcase.
Retail Ready, explained
Retail ready describes a pre-owned watch that is clean, has been checked or serviced, and can go straight into a showcase for sale to a retail customer without any further work. It usually means the watch runs well, looks good and has nothing that a buyer would need to fix.
For dealers buying from other dealers, retail ready is a useful signal because it means less time and cost before the watch can be sold on. It helps to be clear about what has been done to make it ready: a full service, a regulation, a clean, a polish, a new crystal or gaskets. Some buyers want a watch that is retail ready but unpolished, so the two points should be described separately. Retail ready also tends to include timekeeping and water resistance checks, which buyers may ask to see.
Typical usage: “Retail ready Rolex Datejust 36, serviced by an independent watchmaker last month, timegraphed, pressure tested, unpolished, ready for your showcase.”
