Price Check, explained

A price check, often written PC, is a request for a fair price on a specific watch. A dealer posts the reference, year, condition and what comes with it, and asks others in the trade what they think it is worth, whether they are looking to buy it or sell it.

A useful price check gives enough detail for a real answer: reference and dial, card date, full set or not, condition and any service history, ideally with photos. Answers usually come back as a range, and many dealers reply with recent comps rather than a single number. Price checks are common when a dealer is offered a watch they don't trade often, or when the market for a model has been moving. It is also good manners to say whether you are buying or selling, since buy and sell prices differ and people will answer accordingly.

Example: 'PC please: 2021 Datejust 41, blue dial, Jubilee, full set, light wear. Looking to buy.'
