What does “NFS” mean?
Shown off, not for sale.
Also written as: Not For Sale
NFS, explained
NFS stands for 'not for sale'. Dealers and collectors mark a watch NFS when they are showing it off, sharing a new arrival or posting it as an example for others, rather than offering it.
In dealer groups, marking a post NFS saves everyone time by telling others not to send offers. That said, many collectors joke that everything is for sale at the right price, and NFS posts do sometimes attract offers anyway. If you make one, keep it polite and accept a no gracefully. Some people also use NFS for a watch that is already sold or reserved for a client, although 'sold' or 'on hold' is clearer. For dealers, NFS posts are still useful, since they show what others are buying and how a reference looks in real life.
Example: 'NFS, just picked this up for my own collection. Full set from 2019.'
