What does “Factory Set” mean?

Gems set by the manufacturer.

Factory Set, explained

Factory set means any diamonds or gemstones on the watch were set by the manufacturer itself, as part of the watch's original specification. The brand sources, grades and sets the stones, and the reference number and papers usually reflect the gem setting.

For buyers, factory setting is a key point of value and trust. Factory-set watches are generally worth far more than the same model with aftermarket stones, because the quality of the stones and setting meets the brand's standards and the watch remains original. Brands can also service them. Dealers confirm factory setting through the reference or dial code on the papers, the quality and consistency of the setting, and any brand markings. A watch with a mix of factory and aftermarket stones should be described carefully.

Typical usage: “Datejust 31, factory-set diamond bezel and diamond dial, reference and dial code confirmed on the warranty card.” A buyer might ask for close-up photos of the bezel setting to compare it with known factory examples.
