About MB&F
MB&F was founded in Geneva in 2005 by Maximilian Büsser, who had previously run Harry Winston's watch division. The name stands for Maximilian Büsser & Friends, a reference to the independent watchmakers, designers and craftspeople the company works with on each piece.
MB&F calls its watches machines rather than watches. The Horological Machines, starting with HM1 in 2007, are three-dimensional sculptures inspired by spacecraft, cars, animals and other themes. The Legacy Machines, from 2011, imagine what a 19th-century watchmaker might have built had the wristwatch existed then, with round cases and a balance wheel suspended above the dial. The M.A.D. Editions are lower-priced pieces first offered to the brand's community, and the Special Projects began in 2025 with the SP One.
Production is small, and most models are made in limited series of a given material and colour. MB&F references describe the machine, the case metal and the dial or colour, so check each element against the papers. Buyers in this field expect the full set, including the elaborate presentation box, and a service history from MB&F.
