About Breitling

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier, in the Swiss Jura, and soon moved to Grenchen. The company specialised in chronographs: in 1915 Gaston Breitling introduced a separate chronograph pusher, and in the 1930s Willy Breitling added a second pusher for resetting, the layout used by most chronographs today. Breitling built close links with aviation, and the Navitimer of 1952 put a slide-rule bezel for flight calculations on the wrist.

The catalog covers the Navitimer and Navitimer 8, the Chronomat, the Superocean and Superocean Heritage, the Avenger, the Premier, the Top Time, the Endurance Pro and lines no longer current such as the Colt, Cockpit, Transocean and the Bentley models. Many modern chronographs use Breitling's in-house caliber B01, introduced in 2009, and many quartz models use SuperQuartz movements.

Breitling references start with a letter for the case material, such as A for steel, R for red gold or E for titanium, followed by the model code. Dealers quote the full reference, check whether the movement is in-house or based on an outside caliber, and look for the chronometer certificate or warranty card, the box and a complete bracelet.
