What does “President” mean?
Rolex semi-circular three-link bracelet on precious-metal models.
President, explained
The President bracelet is Rolex's bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links, made only in precious metals (gold or platinum). It was introduced in 1956 with the Day-Date, which is often called the 'President' as a result, and it is also fitted to some gold Datejust models. Modern versions usually have a concealed clasp, so the bracelet looks unbroken on the wrist.
The President bracelet is closely tied to the identity of the Day-Date, and an original, correct President bracelet adds substantially to the value of a gold Day-Date. Older gold President bracelets are prone to stretch, so check how much the links sag and whether the clasp closes firmly. Gold is softer than steel, and years of polishing can thin the links. Buyers should also confirm that the bracelet's metal matches the case and that the end links fit correctly, since bracelets can be swapped between watches.
Example: 'Day-Date on President bracelet, full links, minimal stretch.'
