About the role
Soda is a young, fast-growing tech startup on a mission to change how professional watch dealers do business. We’ve built the trade-only platform the watch trade has been waiting for, with a marketplace, auctions, inventory, invoicing and more. Now we need an experienced engineer to help us grow it the right way.
Your focus will be on two things: fixing issues quickly when they come up, and making sure the platform is ready to scale as more dealers join. That means finding weak spots before they become problems, improving speed and reliability, and making sure everything holds up as traffic and data grow.
This is a flexible, part-time, on-call contract role. You’ll work directly with the founder and have real ownership of a product that’s live and being used by real businesses.
Pay is competitive and based on experience, either hourly or per project. We’ll talk details with the right person.
What you’ll do
- Find and fix bugs, outages and security issues, fast
- Review the platform for anything that won’t hold up as we grow, and fix it
- Improve database performance: queries, indexes and permissions
- Make pages, uploads and real-time features fast and reliable under heavier use
- Set up monitoring and alerts so we catch problems before users do
- Keep deploys, environments and tests running smoothly
- Give honest, practical advice on what to fix first
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience with TypeScript, React and Next.js (App Router)
- Deep experience with Supabase and Postgres: Auth, row-level security, migrations, Storage and query performance
- Experience scaling a live web app: caching, indexing, load testing and monitoring
- Comfortable deploying and debugging on Vercel
- Experience with Stripe subscriptions and webhooks
- Familiar with Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, GitHub and automated testing (Playwright is a plus)
- Comfortable picking up a large existing codebase and getting productive quickly
- Security-minded and careful with real user data
- Reliable, responsive and clear when you communicate, especially when something breaks
We don’t care about a stacked resume. At the end of the day, it’s about the person. We care about how you think, how you solve problems and whether you take pride in your work. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
